"Located on a contemporary cul-de-sac, the tour of the McRaven Mansion begins by opening a simple metal gate that leads to a garden path meandering through a canopy of trees.  At the end of the walkway stands the 'Most Haunted House' in Mississippi..."

Interview with Kendra Reed

In February I talked with Kendra Reed, the owner of two historic hospitality properties in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Below is the substance of our conversation, which covers topics of interest to current and prospective Hospitality Management students.

Hidden away at the end of Harrison Street in a wooded area is McRaven Tour Home. Said to be the most haunted house in Mississippi, the Vicksburg historic landmark is open for tours and is a popular attraction in the city.

We all know by now that there is paranormal activity happening all around us, so of course Mississippi is no exception! There are many different places all over the state which are reportedly haunted from cemeteries to hotels and everything in between. The Civil War, historical homes, sweet tea – these are things that normally come up when thinking about the Magnolia State. But when it comes to strange and unusual places, Mississippi has its fair share. From the supernatural to places that are just a bit out of the norm, these Mississippi locations will either give you the creeps, leave you scratching your head, or completely amaze you.

It’s the oldest standing structure in all of Warren County. The first 2 rooms of McRaven House were built when George Washington was President. In 218 years, it’s seen plenty of good times and more than its fair share of tragedy.

Late one afternoon last week, my husband and I visited McRaven House — also known as "the most haunted house in Mississippi," and "the third most haunted house in America."

"McRaven Tour Home in Vicksburg is open again after being closed for several years. Among other things, McRaven is supposed to Mississippi's most haunted house. However, I have never seen anything there myself. But I also know what to say as soon as I get inside the door!"
